Turpentine is a transparent volatile liquid and it is thin like water. It is obtained by taping juice or gum from certain varieties of pine trees. The juice is collected in spring time and it is heated in furnaces. The vapours formed during heating are collected and distilled to obtain turpentine.

Turpentine is mainly used as solvent for paints and varnishes. It also acts as a solvent for rubber. It is used for making printing ink, synthetic camphor, etc.
